Arrowhead Wedding Photographer: Jessica and Brent get Married!

I’m sure that a few of the smile lines I’m developing can be directly blamed on the time I’ve spent with Jess and Brent over the past few months. I met Jess last August, when she brought her always-handsome Kamron (age 4) to the Grant-Humphries Manson for some portraits together. Then, a few minutes after my wife drove my daughter to the Emergency room after falling off her bike (she’s fine, but won’t be if she ever touches a bike without her helmet again), I get an email from Jess:

Hi Eric,
Jessica McCormack here. Brent and I are getting married this year, October 2, 2009. We saw your wedding shots and loved all the work you've done with us in the past that we'd be honored if you would consider shooting our wedding.

So one thing lead to another, we met for a tasting at their wedding venue, Arrowhead golf club, and then met again for a wonderful (and hilarious) portrait session at Arrowhead in August, and now, October 2nd, when they looked at each other and said, “I Do!” in front of their friends and family.

I could write more but I’ve got to get these out to all of you! This is just a selection of my favorites, Jess and Brent will send out a link to their complete gallery after they’ve had a chance to look at it.

Denver Wedding at the Warwick: Heather and Bill!

I joined Heather and Bill, their charming boys, and loving family for a delightful day at the Warwick Hotel in Denver this weekend. I arrived as the girls were getting hair and makeup done on the 6th floor, and the boys were still on their way. Heather and Bill had their first look on the patio downstairs at Randolph’s restaurant, and then we went right into a sunny, beautiful, and emotional ceremony.

If you’ve met me, you can tell by my size that I love to eat. (If you haven’t met me, I’m 5′10, 135) So as I watched the efficient and very professional banquet staff at the Warwick Hotel transform the ballroom into brunch my stomach started rumbling (little secret here, if you are planning a wedding, you MIGHT be able to get me to work for food if you are as much a foodie as I)

I setup the Crazybooth (a wedding photobooth) and our friendly bartender christened it with one of the wigs that Heather brought along to liven up the booth. Then it was on to a fun and frolicking reception with dancing, eating, and laughter.

Heather and Bill, Thank you for inviting me along to your wonderful wedding day, enjoy and remember with these images!

Colorado Wedding Photographer: Jess and Brent at Arrowhead. Engagement Pics

Jess and Brent are getting married at Arrowhead Golf Club. Their wedding is this October 2nd, and I can’t wait, because I know it’s going to be a P-a-r-t-y! How do I know? Because these two kids couldn’t stop giggling. From the moment I told them to sit together on the wet grass at Arrowhead Golf Club, it was a non-stop fun fest out there on the greens. Lindsey Dienstbach, the sales director out at Arrowhead, came along to help spot golfers (there were a few close calls), and I think she had a blast just watching Jess and Brent laugh and play.

Arrowhead Golf Club, some of the most spectacular Colorado scenery along the Front Range

I am so excited to photograph Jess and Brent’s wedding out at Arrowhead this fall because of it’s spectacular views.  Think Red Rocks but stretching as far as your eye can see.  It didn’t hurt that I sat down with Jess and Brent for their tasting and had some spectacular entrees prepared by their chef.  Little secret:   I love eating great food at weddings, and any bride and groom that choose their food as carefully as the tux and wedding dress are good friends of mine!

Mountain Wedding Florist: Bloom [Breckenridge, Colorado]

From time to time, I like to recognize the vendors who design and create the environment of a wedding. From the venue, to the caterer and florist, it all comes together and helps make beautiful pictures. I’m sure I could create joyous and emotion-packed wedding images from a reception at your local McDonalds, but they won’t have the added beauty that the flowers, decor, and venue add to the photos.

When I need a break from weddings, I love to shoot flowers…sometimes it’s wildflowers up in the mountains, other times it’s in gardens or cut. But when I need a break DURING the wedding day, I always make a run for the bouquet and the table settings, looking for those exquisite details that are found in floral arrangements.

So here’s a few arrangements that Juli Miller over at Bloom crafted for a summer wedding at the Hyatt Main Street Station in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Wedding Films…blending stills + video

In December 2008, I began using Canon’s latest Pro-Digital Camera, which records HD video as well as scrumptious still images. Over the last 9 months, I’ve brought it to many weddings, portrait sessions, and personal events, dreaming of ways to blend and fuse moving pictures with still. Sometimes, the frozen moments that a traditional camera captures is perfect. It simplifies and distills emotions into a image you can understand in an instant.

But other times, still images are missing something…the dimensions of sound and motion, and at those times, I flip a single switch and start to record motion pictures. The quality is beyond that of traditional video cameras, either professional or consumer level. One great advantage this camera has over other videographers’ cameras is that is is very sensative to light, I NEVER use a video light, one of those bright flashlights that goes on top of the camera and shines in your guests’ eyes. I use only natural light, capturing the ambiance and environment of your wedding.

Here’s a short clip I captured at Joel and Christen’s wedding at Keystone. As you are watching this, be amazed that Joel broke his toe about 5 hours before he went on the dance floor, and had yet to make a trip to the hospital to get an x-ray, boot, or painkillers :-) I’m amazed.

Breckenridge Wedding Album [Hyatt Main Street Station]

When you are choosing your photographer, You’ll most likely be able to choose between a package that includes albums, and packages that simply include the digital images. I always suggest that couples choose a package with an album because it’s the most lasting history of your wedding day you can have. I remember looking through my Grandmother’s wedding album, which was over 50 years old, and thinking that this is why I am a photographer. I design albums for grandchildren, for your descendants. Yikes. Yep, I’m thinking long-term here. Everything else on your wedding day is for that day alone, and what lasts are your memories and your photographs.

I like to pre-design wedding albums because it gives me the opportunity to tell the story as I saw it. Predesigning also helps get the process started and gets the album to you sooner. I know that your first year as a married couple isn’t exactly filled with hours of free time to design your album, so I put my design skills to the task and send you some ideas a few weeks after the wedding. Here’s a recent wedding album I pre-designed for a couple married in Breckenridge, Colorado at the Hyatt Main Street Station.

Hudson Gardens Wedding Photography

You gotta hand it to Hudson Gardens in Littleton. They have created a diverse and beautiful venue for weddings, and gone out of their way to cater to wedding groups. I’ve always felt welcome there, and whenever I call with questions about photography, the staff has always had a “sure, that sounds good” kind of answer for me. When I’ve been, the grounds are impeccably maintained, the different venues are clean and well maintained, and the layout of the park keeps different simultaneous weddings separate. It’s not uncommon for several weddings to be happening at Hudson Gardens on a Saturday night.

Here’s a few favorites from a fall wedding at Hudson Gardens

Kamron’s going to a wedding! At Arrowhead Golf Club. With Jess and Brent.

I got to photograph Kamron and his cute little dog Roscoe last August, almost to the day. We went downtown and played around the Grant-Humphries Mansion for a while, and Kamron got some kisses from Roscoe.

Well, a year later it’s time for more pictures, except this time Kamron’s going to be along for the fun, as Jess and Brent get married and party at Arrowhead Golf Club. We sat down this afternoon to taste their menu and figure out photo details, and I can honestly say that this is going to be a delicious, joyful, playful wedding.

So here’s looking forward to a beautiful fall wedding on October 2nd, 2009, for Brent and Jessica, engagement pics and then wedding pics to follow soon! Oh yeah, and they insisted on the Crazyboo!h Photobooth, so you’ll see the G and PG rated Crazyboo!h pics online soon after their wedding too.

Here’s Kamron from last August, I’m sure he will be a fun part of the wedding, Jess and Brent are still deciding whether Roscoe will have a role in the wedding. Wedding at the Arrowhead Golf Club Roxborough State Park Photographer

Breckenridge Colorado Wedding at the Hyatt Main Street Station

Katie and Rob’s wedding at the Hyatt Main Street Station in Breckinridge was filled with bubbly and infectious joy. Katie always looked like she was loving it! Here’s a few portraits we created right near the Peak 9 lifts. I love capturing couples interacting naturally. I’ll give them little hints, and then left them enjoy the time together.
