Wedding Films for cinema lovers
I remember watching an MTV special, as a latch-key kid at home alone in the late 80s, about the making of music videos. It was the still photographers, the fashion shooters working in New York and LA, that took the art form of a music video and made it what it was in it’s heyday. Now, as the technology allows, I’m bringing my photographic eye to the dimensions of sound and motion.
I will see moments at weddings and feel that my still camera cannot do justice…it’s missing the sound, the action, the passage of time. It happened at Averee’s wedding in April…
Escorted to the dance floor by her father, Averee and Dad began a traditional slow dance to a forgettable 80s song that Dad probably has on cassette tape or record in the basement. But then wait! The sound of a record screeching and silence…buy why the hell am I writing this…I was filming that night, so you can see and hear it right now!
It’s called Joyfulography, and I’m redefining what it means to create a wedding “video” I’m using the latest cameras (Canon’s 5d Mark II), and creating images with world-class lenses. The images are closer to what you’d see in a movie theater than from even a professional video camera, and editing that is simple, clean, and keeps your attention on the beauty of the day, not on gimmicky video tricks and computer-generated effects. In addition to my camera equipment, I use professional microphones to capture the dimension of sound, something so important as you say your vows, friends offer toasts, and laughter fills the room.
