Joyfulography: Wedding Cinema

Wedding Films for cinema loversjoyfulographyblog

I remember watching an MTV special, as a latch-key kid at home alone in the late 80s, about the making of music videos. It was the still photographers, the fashion shooters working in New York and LA, that took the art form of a music video and made it what it was in it’s heyday. Now, as the technology allows, I’m bringing my photographic eye to the dimensions of sound and motion.

I will see moments at weddings and feel that my still camera cannot do justice…it’s missing the sound, the action, the passage of time. It happened at Averee’s wedding in April…

Escorted to the dance floor by her father, Averee and Dad began a traditional slow dance to a forgettable 80s song that Dad probably has on cassette tape or record in the basement. But then wait! The sound of a record screeching and silence…buy why the hell am I writing this…I was filming that night, so you can see and hear it right now!

It’s called Joyfulography, and I’m redefining what it means to create a wedding “video” I’m using the latest cameras (Canon’s 5d Mark II), and creating images with world-class lenses.  The images are closer to what you’d see in a movie theater than from even a professional video camera, and editing that is simple, clean, and keeps your attention on the beauty of the day, not on gimmicky video tricks and computer-generated effects.  In addition to my camera equipment, I use professional microphones to capture the dimension of sound, something so important as you say your vows, friends offer toasts, and laughter fills the room.

Colorado Wedding Film: Cherokee Ranch and Castle

It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon that I drove up the winding road to Cherokee Ranch. It was Elizabeth and Brett’s wedding day and I was there to capture the day on film. Here’s a sneak peek.

Interested in a wedding film created from your special day? I offer motion picture services alongside traditional wedding photography using the latest digital film technology. I then edit your footage into a short wedding film that captures the feeling, the moments, and the voices of the day.

Averee and Wally: Wedding Film Sneak Peak

Stay Tuned for Part Two, where Averee and Wally say I DO!

Rachel and Diego : Fusion Wedding Film

I’m curious how new cameras that record both spectacular still images as well as HD video can better tell the story of your wedding day. I’m now offering fusion wedding packages, which include short films (the quality out of my camera is so much closer to what you would see from a motion picture film in a theater, so I’m calling them films…these aren’t your uncles’ wedding video). So this little clip you see is just a taste of what could be created at your wedding. I went to Rachel’s wedding to have fun and be a guest, so this is just a tiny bit of what you would see from your wedding film. I love hearing my Dad dancing with Rachel and him singing along softly to the song…that song is SO him. And Diego’s apron dance? I could create some hilarious still pictures, but I’m SO glad I was filming that part. It will be screened at their 50th anniversary.
